Sacramental Preparation
Children who are 6 years or older, who have been baptized Roman Catholic, and who have participated in at least one full year of Religious Education during the previous year are eligible to prepare for the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist. Diocesan guidelines for Sacraments may be found online here: Diocesan Sacrament Guidelines.
All children must be enrolled in the parish Religious Education program or Catholic school. Children who are eligible may enroll for Sacrmental preparation during Religious Education registration. A copy of the child's Baptismal certificate should be submitted with Sacrament Preparation registraion and is required before beginning preparation. Registration for Sacramental preparation should be done in the fall when registering for religious education. Click here for a copy of the Sacramental Registration form in English. It is required that children attend all Sunday afternoon sessions in order to celebrate the Sacraments. Parents will participate in some of the meetings along with their child during the preparation process. These Sunday afternoon workshops provide parents with theological information, spiritual renewal, and catechetical directives.
It is expected that every family involved in preparation for any of the Sacraments are also participating in Sunday Liturgy. Individual readiness for the first reception of each of the sacraments will be determined by the Pastor, the parents, the child and the catechist.
